English Colonial Rule

I am looking at colonial impact and interference by countries on the global poor.

Let us start with England so that I am not accused of bias when looking at France, Russia etc 😂. and putting in the context of Madagascar.  It is complicated and I have never thought too deeply about it.

I am trying to be neutral and avoid bias.

Many countries around the world harbour resentment towards English colonial rule due to historical grievances, the lasting impact of colonialism, and the struggles for independence. Some notable examples include:

1. India: The British colonization, which lasted nearly 200 years, led to significant exploitation and societal disruption. Events like the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the Partition of India have left deep scars.

2. Kenya: The Mau Mau uprising against British colonial rule highlighted the harsh realities of land dispossession and violence, contributing to ongoing tensions regarding historical injustices.

3. South Africa: The colonial legacy, combined with the apartheid system implemented by the British and later the Afrikaner government, has created lasting resentments related to racial inequalities and land rights.

4. Caribbean nations (e.g., Jamaica, Barbados): The history of slavery, exploitation, and economic domination has led to complex feelings about colonial history.

5. Australia and New Zealand: Indigenous populations in these countries experienced significant cultural and social disruption due to British colonization, leading to ongoing movements for recognition and rights.

6. Ireland: The history of English rule, marked by conflict, oppression, and famine, has fostered a complex relationship characterized by resentment and ongoing political issues.

7. Ghana: Formerly the Gold Coast, Ghana's experience with British colonialism included resource exploitation and the struggle for independence, which continues to influence national identity.

8. Egypt: British occupation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries created resentment, particularly due to control over resources and political systems.
